plant-based nail colors

What does "plant-based" mean exactly?

Do the new plant-based colors last longer than the water-based?

This is a very individual question. The durability depends on the condition of your nails, the way you apply the product and your activities. Will the collection stay?

Which ingredient causes the smell?

Two ingredients - so-called solvents - in the new long-lasting formula are specifically responsible for the smell. We use these two ingredients to bring together the water-based and oil-based ingredients in the formula. Otherwise, you would see several different layers in the nail polish bottle instead of one smooth liquid. Unlike traditional nail polishes, however, our solvents are made up for the most part of natural ingredients such as sugar cane, cassava, wheat and corn.

ingredients and formula

Why is gitti vegan?

With nail polish it is mainly the colour and effect pigments that are often not vegan. Red tones in traditional nail polish can be produced with the help of carmine. To obtain this red pigment, scale insects are crushed. Carmine is not only needed for red, but also for shades such as pinkviolet and brown. For effect pigments, guanine can be used, which makes the nail polish shimmer beautifully. Guanine is extracted from fish scales. For our gitti nail colors no animal comes to harm, neither for the colour shades nor in the production.

Is gitti suitable for pregnant women and children?

As a matter of principle, all our products are tested and evaluated to determine whether they are safe for our customers* when used in the usual and foreseeable manner. the question of a possible pregnancy is generally irrelevant for cosmetic products that were not explicitly developed for use during pregnancy. In this respect, we are unfortunately unable to give any special recommendation for use during pregnancy. What we can tell you is that we at gitti do without up to 16 ingredients that can still be used in conventional nail polishes. The best thing is to discuss the topic with your doctor. We would be glad to hear from you what kind of feedback you have received.

Is gitti suitable for allergy sufferers?

gitti dispenses with a multitude of ingredients that may still be contained in traditional lacquers. Basically, any ingredient - both synthetic and natural - can cause intolerances or allergies. Our formulations reduce a possible intolerance, but we still ask you to check this with your doctor before using gitti.

Is microplasty included?

So that gitti sticks well on your nails and is not directly washable again, we use so-called film formers. Although they are chemically speaking plastics, our film formers do not fall under microplastics according to the definition of the Federal Environment Agency. However, it is our goal to offer a formula in the future that completely dispenses with plastics.

Are hormonally active/toxic/suspicious substances included in the formula?

All ingredients used in gitti meet all requirements of the European Cosmetic Decree and are safe in their concentration. This conformity is guaranteed by extensive legislation and safety assessments by experts with whom we work closely together. We also follow all scientific discussions on the subject very closely, as the safety of our customers* is our top priority.

Discolors my nails?

Unfortunately, discoloration of the nails can also occur with water-based colors ones. When your nails discolour, this happens because the colouring substances are embedded in the nail plate. However, this is not classified as a health hazard. If the discolouration still bothers you, always apply a layer of top&base coat, this is especially important for colour-intensive shades such as our red shades.

An interesting hint that we have already received on this topic is that the discoloration of the nails can also be hormonal and due to your cycle. Of course we will keep you informed about further developments in this regard.

What is nitrocellulose and is this ingredient harmful?

nitrocellulose is one of the main ingredients in conventional nail polishes. as a film former, this substance provides the typical texture of the polish and is responsible for the hold of the nail polish nail color on your nail. however, nitrocellulose is suspected of causing harmful nitrosamines in the body. that's why we completely avoid nitrocellulose in our water-based formula. in our plant-based formula, nitrocellulose comes as far as possible from natural sources (cotton).

What does ISO 16128 mean?

The ISO standard 16128 increases transparency - especially for manufacturers of natural cosmetic products, because until today there is no legal definition for natural cosmetic products about the meaning of the words "natural" or "organic".

This standard allows the degree of natural or biological origin to be determined numerically, making it easy to compare individual raw materials and finished products.

Is gitti "x-free" / which ingredients does gitti contain?

gitti dispenses with a multitude of ingredients that may still be contained in traditional lacquers. Nevertheless, we deliberately refrain from giving our nail colors products an "x-free" label, since there is currently no uniform, official evaluation scheme for nail polishes and every manufacturer can call up his own list or definition.

However, the following applies in principle:

3-free: No formaldehyde, no toluene, no dibutyl phthalate.

Five-free: Additionally renounces formaldehyde resin and camphor.

7-free: Additionally renounces animal ingredients and animal testing.

10-free: Additionally renounces parabens, fragrances and xylenes.

With our new plant-based formula, we are dispensing with the following additional substances: ethyl tosylamide (its use is prohibited in Europe), triphenyl phosphate (tpp/tphp), benzophenone -1, rosin and propyl acetate. However, our goal and the mission we are working on is a 100% natural formula. We work on it with all our energy and passion.
